Thank you for your
interest in volunteering at KXCI. We just conducted a Volunteer Orientation at 6pm May 1st. Our Next Volunteer Orientation will probably take place in August 2013, exact date tba. at the KXCI Studios, 220 S. 4th Avenue. Please contact Amanda@kxci.org or 623-1000 ext. 17 to RSVP and check back here for updates.
We hold new volunteer orientations periodically throughout the year at the station. This meeting is geared toward people who are interested in
volunteering at KXCI. We will conduct a tour of the station, and we will discuss who we are, what we do, how we do it, and how you become part of it. We'll discuss upcoming volunteer and training opportunities (on and off the
air).
Attendance at this meeting is a prerequisite for DJ/Programmer training. Each person is given a packet of information with volunteer opportunities and
contact information to catalyze new volunteer involvement. Most office and music department volunteer opportunities take place at the KXCI studios during regular business hours while staff is present at the station. Sorry- we just don't have the capacity to have volunteers come down to KXCI after work to do projects. However, KXCI needs volunteers at events which are off site and after regular business hours. We can also use volunteers for our Membership Drives in September and March and often those hours can be before or after work and on the weekends.
Please email amanda at kxci.org to register for the next volunteer orientation. She will put you on the Volunteer Orientation waiting list, and notify you about the next orientation.
The next DJ/Programmer Training will begin in October 2013. It will be limited to people who have already attended a volunteer orientation in the previous 18 months. It will run one night a week for 4 consecutive weeks from 6:15 to about 8pm. There is already a waiting list of people who have attended previous volunteer orientations, but we may be able to make space for August 2013 orientation attendees.
KXCI currently conducts programmer training courses three times a year beginning in January, June and October.
Attendance of a Volunteer Orientation is a prerequisite for KXCI New DJ/ Programmer Training.
Have you ever wondered how to get on the air at KXCI? Being a DJ/Programmer at KXCI is more than just having a big music collection. It means being a part of a team that helps KXCI implement its mission to connect the communities of Tucson and Southern Arizona to each other and to the world with informative, engaging and creative community-based radio programming.
In this 4 week, 8 hour course, we will learn some of the behind the scenes broadcast basics. We will go over KXCI policies and FCC rules, and cover some broadcasting dos and don'ts. Completion of this course is a beginning point for possible on air opportunities. Graduates of this 8 hour theory course will need to shadow on air programmers to learn more about the hands on broadcasting. Students who complete all four classes and successfully "shadow" with our instructors will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills on the air during a one hour bootcamp. Completion of this course does not guarantee an on air opportunity.
Please email amanda at kxci.org to register for DJ/Programmer Training. There is no fee for this course. Students must attend all four classes and understudy with our instructors to be considered for further on air shifts. Completion does not guarantee an on air position.
