We're Back - Power Restored & The On-Air Signal is Restored

We'd like to thank the crews who completed emergency repairs to the electrical service on Mt. Lemmon and have restored the power necessary for us to share our great music and public affairs programs once again to our Tucson listeners.

In the event we go off the air again (they are calling for more snow!), we are always able to stream live on KXCI.org and through applications like the Public Radio tuner on iTunes.

Thank you for your patience during our roughly 24 hours off the air!

KXCI Currently Off the Air Due to Power Outage on Mt. Bigelow

At about 12:45 pm KXCI went off the air. The power where our transmitter is located on Mount Bigelow has been out due to the recent storms. The back up generator is now out of gas. Other local stations are also affected. We are uncertain when power will be restored to the area. We will continue to stream at www.kxci.org.

Haiti: How To Help

On Tuesday, a massive 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti just outside the capital of Port-au-Prince. The damage is extensive and the potential for additional loss of life in the days and weeks ahead is enormous. This is the worst earthquake in Haiti's long history. You can help:

Tucson's World Care is accepting items (first aid supplies, OTC medications, emergency items, hygiene, etc.) as well as monetary donations. Learn more at http://www.worldcare.org/

The American Red Cross has already made a contribution to Haitian relief, but can do more with your donation: http://www.redcross.org/

Raging Sage Coffee Roasters in Tucson (2458 North Campbell) is donating all proceeds on Sunday, January 17th to Doctors Without Borders' relief efforts in Haiti.

The Alliance for Global Justice holds a potluck fundraiser for Haiti earthquake victims on Sunday, January 17th starting at 5pm at 849 West Franklin Street. Donations will be funneled through Haiti Reborn and the Haiti Action Committee, two groups with excellent on-the-ground contacts. AFGJ National Co-Coordinators, James Jordan and Chuck Kaufman, just returned from a delegation to Haiti to investigate human rights abuses resulting from the US sponsored coup and occupation. They will be reporting back on what was learned. Info: 520-243-0381.

Contact the Haitian Health Foundation at http://www.haitianhealthfoundation.org/

Hip Hop artist Wyclef Jean is urging people to donate $5 to his Haitian charity, YƩle Haiti, by texting "YELE" to 501501. (The donation will be automatically charged to your cellphone bill.)

As plans for additional relief campaigns become known (including a possible local music benefit concert), we will update this blog.
